Welcome to Osan Middle School!

 

On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to the 2012-2013 school year.  Osan Middle School is an AdvancED accredited institution  and firmly committed to continuous school improvement.  The vision is “providing a setting of high expectations that engage and motivate all students in a successful learning environment.  Therefore, my focus is (1) to ensure that all students meet or exceed challenging standards in academic content and (2) to facilitate a safe environment conducive to optimum student achievement.

It is our belief that your experience at Osan Middle School will be educationally profitable.  The middle school years are a time of new opportunities and it is our priority to ensure that all students do their very best.  So, we welcome and strongly encourage parental and community involvement to create a positive school and home learning environment.

“Providing a Setting of High Expectations that Engage and Motivate all Students in a Successful Learning Environment”

High Expectations
We define high expectations as an “expressed belief that each learner will meet or exceed established standards at an individualized level of proficiency”.  To have power, expectations must be accompanied by supports to help learners achieve rigorous standards.
 

Student Engagement
Engagement is enhanced when learning is relevant.  We make learning relevant via the use of recognized instructional tools (Cornell notes, essential questions, graphic organizers, summary writing) and relevant instructional technology.

Student Motivation
Learners are motivated when they keep up and do not fall behind.  We monitor progress toward learning standards regularly via the use of formative assessment so corrective action can be taken before it is too late.  Meaningful relationships with teachers who help learners stay on pace and on track keeps them motivated.

Successful Learning Environment
Results from the annual administration of the TerraNova 3rd Edition are analyzed against DoDEA achievement standards and our school goals.
